Tigers Roll Over Sleepy Eye
7/22/20
Springfield was back in action on Wednesday night at Riverside Park. Following Tuesday night's one-run victory over Essig, The Tigers' offense came out on fire. Every starter had at least one hit and 5 players had two or more hits for the home team. Sleepy Eye kept the Tigers off the scoreboard in the second inning, but Springfield averaged five runs per half-inning in their other at bats. This gave the Tigers an easy 25-4 seven-inning victory.
NOTES: The 25 runs scored by the Tigers marked the second straight night that Sleepy Eye had allowed more than twenty runs. On Tuesday night, Hanska defeated Sleepy Eye 22-4...The 25 runs scored was the most runs scored by any team in Tomahawk East League play since St. James defeated Courtland 26-1 on May 10, 2015...The last time the Tigers scored 25 runs in a game also involved Sleepy Eye. Springfield downed Sleepy Eye 25-5 on June 2, 1999. Amateur baseball was still using aluminum bats then!...Since Riverside Park had the new inning-by-inning scoreboard installed in 2014, many wondered who would be the one to smash a home run off of it. Several homers have come close over the years, but the answer to that question came on Wednesday night as Branden Flock banged a grand slam off the scoreboard leaving a dent!
